Let's take public transport to save emission
There are 1148 large-capacity buses, 48 trolleybuses, 17 articulated buses, 46 medium-capacity buses, 59 low-capacity buses, and 503 taxis—a total of 1822 public transport vehicles registered in the Ulaanbaatar’s Public Transport Service Agency. Of this, more than 985 buses in 98 routes are actively operating. More than 80 percent of the buses were due to be removed from service in 2020, while 560 are planned to be removed in 2022. In 2021, 106 new buses were planned to be purchased, but due to the pandemic, only 35 buses were purchased.
On average, more than 480,000 people use public transportation daily, and peak times are between 07:00 and 10:00 and 17:00 and 21:00. During the peak months of September, October, and November, 700,000 passengers use public transportation every day. The longest bus route is 11-12 km one way, or 22-25 km round trip. The average waiting time for a bus is stated to be 5-8 minutes, but in reality, people may wait for an hour in the winter and during peak times.
